JPM Writer Bio–The Short Story

The major activities of my professional life have been writing and photography. Each is pursued by many and understood by few.

People think writing is about words and language. Photography is about cameras and equipment.

Not so.

Each field is about ideas and what you do with them. Finding the right ones, interacting with other ideas, and using them to produce writing or images that do the job. In my case that has mostly been advertising.

Focusing on ideas elevates your work. Gives the work more artistic value. Promotes better aeshetics. Powers commercial success for clients.

In my experience, the idea-centered approach has achieved fantastic results and personal satisfaction, even fun. But there were other times I went along with the usual approaches out of laziness or to satisfy clients.

Here’s the good news. It’s getting easier to follow the right approach and do work that makes a bigger impact.
